This map shows the various states as they appeared after the 1772 partition of Poland. The state of Prussia, a kingdom since 1701 and now ruled by Frederick the Great (Old Fritz), controlled the areas Brandenberg, Silesia, Pomerania, the Neumark, West Prussia and the Netze district. It is in this district that the Krienke families lived. At this time they were located mostly north of the Netze (today the Notec River), in Kreis Wirsitz, but by 1826 Christoph and his son Daniel were living on the south side of the river, in Kreis Kolmar.
