In 1892 James started making cheese in a building behind what is the present (1980's) home of Andrew Colquhoun.
In 1896 and 1900 his cheese won first prize for the best colored cheese at the Saint John Exhibition.
In 1899 the Corn Hill Cheese Company was taking in over 9000 pounds of milk per day during a season from May 1 to October 30. In 1900 cheese was selling for 10 cents a pound.
In 1902 the community formed the Corn Hill Cheese and Butter Company and bought out Mr. Brown. He continued on as cheesemaker for many years for the new company, on the Anagance Ridge cross-road. in 1892, at, Kings, .¹
