Harold "Hash" Welwyn Krienke Living in Saskatoon, Sask., at the time of the BOOK, and still there in Feb., 1999, as I did talk to him by phone that night.

He told of the time he visited Fort Frances and hid in the back of Myrtle's car and when someone asked if Myrtle could tell who he was, she asked him to speak and as soon as he opened his mouth she said "It's Hash Krienke".

Myrtle was one of the biggest of the Krienke's. As a kid, I remember her requiring two chairs to sit upon. In those days of cours the fashion was steel tube chairs, and they were not all that strong.

The best story I remember is one told by my Mother "Dorothea". She tells of an ice storm in Fort Frances and somehow Myrtle managed to fall and in so doing slid into a ditch. She was so big and with the slippery road, due to the ice, the only way they were able to extricate her was to tie a rope to a car and pull her out. Seems hard to believe, but look at her picture in the files, and it becomes more plausible.

KRIENKE -Hash, a unique and irreplaceable man left us Tuesday, September 26, leaving his children, Marlene (Peter) Sawchuk, Blaine (Cheryl) Krienke; his grandchildren, Kelly (Helena), Tori (Terry), Guy, Shawn (Sue), Tanys (Don); his ten greatgrandchildren; sister, Joyce and his special niece, Maisie, full of grief but also full of wonderful memories. Hash's enthusiasm for life never waned in his 92 plus years, from his hobbies of hunting, ball playing, curling, horse racing and gambling to his various careers of farming near Quill Lake to a general store in Clair, buying and selling poultry and trash, to crop adjusting in Saskatchewan and selling appliances in Saskatoon. He spent ten years caring for his wife, Audrey after her illness in 1971. Later he travelled Canada and abroad with his gambling buddy, Cynthia. Hash remained very active enjoying the good care of his nurses and doctors and caregivers at Meadow Green Care Home. Hash was predeceased by his wife, Audrey; his parents; six brothers; great-granddaughter, Casey Rey; and special nephew, Eddie. A Celebration of Hash's life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from Mayfair United Church, 902-33rd St. West, Saskatoon. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 244-5577.
