Josephine "Josie" Gilbert died on 22 March 1930, at, Grey, . Mrs. George WARLING: DIED ON SATURDAY
Deceased Had Been Suffering from Asthma for Several Months
MARKDALE, Mar. 26. The people of Vandeleur and surrounding district are mourning the lose of one of their most highly respected residents in the person of Mrs. Josephine Warling, widow of the late George Warling, whose death occurred in 1925. The late Mrs. Warling being subject to asthma had not enjoyed very good health for a number of months, and her sudden passing on Saturday, Mar. 22nd, following an illness of about two weeks, came as a shock to her family and friends, who expected that she would rally as on several former occasions.
The deceased who was sixty-four years of age was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gilbert of Artemesla, in which township she was born, and had continued to live, during her life time, her married life being spent in the immediate vicinity of Vandeleur. Being warm-hearted and of a very affectionate disposition, she had many friends, to whom her home was ever open. She was a member for many years of the Meaford Road United Church, formerly Methodist, and although of late, unable to take part in the activities of the church she was always interested In their success.
One son, Elmer, on the homestead survives, while her only daughter, Sadie, died about 14 years ago. Surviving also are three brothers and two sisters, namely: Thomas Gilbert of Colpoy s Bay; John Gilbert of Toronto, and Sam Gilbert, Vandeleur; Mrs. Mary Clark, Huntsville, and Mrs. Rose Cooper, of Edmonton, An adopted daughter, Kathleen, a little girl of about fifteen years, mourns the loss of a kind and loving mother and guard1an.
The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, service being held in the Meaford Road Church. Owing to the continued indisposition of her pastor, Rev. A. N St. John, the service was taken by Rev. W. Coutts of Cooke s United Church, Markdale, who spoke from Heb. 2-15, "Christ and the fear of death." Mrs. Will Johnston sang with deep feeling "The City Four Square,", which was a favorite hymn of the deceased. Despite the inclement weather and the condition of the roads, the funeral was of very largely attended. Many beautiful floral offerings at bore testimony to the love and respect in which the, late Mrs. Warling was held.
Among relatives from outside points who were present for the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Gilbert, Sr., and sons, Charlie and Norman, of Wiarton; Mr. Tom Gilbert, Colpoy s Bay; Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert and sons, Jack and Alex of Toronto, also three nephews, Mr. Ed. Warling of Toronto, Mr. Alex Carson, Priceville, and Mr. A. V. Gilbert, Markdale, and two nieces, Mrs. Will Timmins and Mrs. Albert McNally, Traverston.
The pallbearers were: Messrs E. Baker, Charlie and Fred Boland, J. Graham, Joseph Buchan and Will Hutchinson.3
