Margaret "Martha" Ann Murray married John B. Moon on 17 February 1795, at Claverack Reformed Church, Columbia City, NY. There is still some questions about the name of John's wife. There is a record of a Johannes Moon marrying a Margretha Morry in Claverack Reformed Church, 17 February, 1795. This couple have a number of children whose names are identical to the names given by Retta Moon Elyea except that there is no reference to the oldest son, John. The mother of Peter Moon who settled in Huntingdon Township, Hastings County, gives her name as Martha in the 1851 census. Martha could well derive from Margretha and Morry and Murray is easy to understand. The couple, Johannes and Margaretha, have a daughter Margaret who marries John P. Shnider according to the baptism records of their children. According to Retta Moon Elyea, Margaret Moon marries an unknown Snyder. This is a lot of coincidence!

Since writing the above notes, I have found a baptism for a John Bemoon in Claverack. A natural mistake. This has convinced me that this is the right family for the Moon's who moved to Ameliasburgh,Prince Edward County.²
