John Julius Homuth was born on 23 June 1844, at Pos. Breitenstein, , Prussia. At From 1901 census, 1843. from 1881 census; Seeking help in finding some Prussian places mentioned (and probably not spelled correctly) re origin of the Charles/Carl/Karl Homuth family of Turnberry Township. Family legend indicates the family originated from Ludwig near Frankfurt. Obituary for wife Hannah Christina Homuth says she was a “native of Bradenburry, Prussia” (Brandenburg ??). Transcriptions for Waterloo County Marriages 1858-1869 indicate that son John Julius Homuth was born at Breitenstein Friedberg Prussia. All other marriage and death registrations and all census returns list places of birth as either Prussia or Germany. The Homuth family emigrated ca.1858/60 to Waterloo Twp., Waterloo County, Ontario and to Turnberry Twp., Huron County in 1863. Parts of the former Prussia came under Polish control after WWII, and place names were changed.
