Henrich "Henry Gatemann was born in 1816, at, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. ; Three brothers, Christian, Heinrich and Frederick Gateman came to Canada from Mecklenburg, Germany. Christian and his wife Margot came to Brant Township in 1853 and took up crown land on Lot 27 Concession 4, Brant Twp. Henri and his wife Fredericka and his five children came to take up Crown Land in Brant Township on Lot 31 Concession 5 in 1857. Frederick and his wife Mina did not arrive until 1871, they brought their three children with them and had more family after their arrival.¹
Henrich "Henry Gatemann died in 1887, at Buried St. Peter's Cem., , Bruce, . Henri Gateman died on his farm on 5 April 1887 at the age of 72 years. His wife Fredericka Marianna, passed away in her rocking chair at the home of her son, Joseph, on Lot 28 Concession 7, Brant Township, at the age of 84 years, 4 months. The date of death was February 3 1902. They were buried in Second St Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Brant Township.¹
