Bright's Disease is an older classification for different forms of kidney disease. It was named after Dr. Richard Bright, who described the condition in the early 19th century. Lack of understanding of kidney function naturally meant that several different conditions could be considered Bright's Disease. These include inflammation of the kidney, commonly called nephritis. Inflammation may be the result of too much protein being shed through the kidneys, called proteinuria, or hematuria, which causes blood in the urine. As well, Bright's Disease might describe kidney failure due to high blood pressure or retention of fluids.²

Annie McKague In her later years, Mrs. Whiteman gave some of her earliest recollections of life in Culross Twp., where she was born in 1856 on Con. 10 at the big hill on a farm later occupied by the Borho family. That is near the first trail into Culross from the Durham Road. As a toddler, she recalle, she went down the hill to the creek with her father to catch fish for supper, and she heard her parents tell of the attacks of bears upon young livestock. After only a few years there the family moved to Con. 6 west. Son Andrew, 3 years old, buried in Smith's Cemetery. in 2010.

Sam Kirkland      Samuel Kirkland (1829-1893) a native of Cork, Ire., first migrated to Newtonville (Twp. of Clarke) where he is listed on the assessment roll of 1856 as "carpenter and builder". There he married Elizabeth McKague and in 1858 they moved to Culross Twp. to farm on the eastern edge of Teeswater.
     The eldest son, William (1855-1927) married Jane Sharpe, a daughter of Andrew Sharpe, and with the younger members of their family moved to Wilkie, SK about 1914-1915 to join the older sons and daughters who had preceeded them. Since William was a cousin of the McKagues and Jane a cousin to the Sharpes who married the McKagues, their descendents ar doubly related to the three McKague-Sharpe branches marked X. Now figure that out for yourself if you will.
