Johann Krienke In the first half of the 16th century the Netherlands belonged to the Habsburg kingdom. In 1515 , Emperor Karl V. became the Kaiser of this region. He was Catholic and he persecuted Lutherans, Zwinglis, Calvinsits and also the followers of the Dutch minister Menno Simons (Mennonites). The original establishement of towns in Prussia by Dutch people has been documented but in later times all of the Dutch names had disappeared. It must be supposed that in the integration process (because Germans and Dutch intermarried) the settlers coming from Holland adopted Germanic version of their names. And like the Dutch language, the old-Prussian language also disappeared.

When the Archbishop von Firmian began his war on the Protestants in Austria in 1731-1732, over 22,000 were forced to leave the country. Although most found exile in East Prussia, others settled near Berlin, in the state of Hannover, and in the Netherlands. About 80 families emigrated to Georgia from 1734-1738. Their descendants settled in Savannah, Georgia and formed an association in 1925.
