Marion Smith Tristram [Moon - PeterJackson.FTW]
May have been baptized as Phyllis Marion Smith although her birth certificate gives her name as Marion Smith Tristram. Apparently her father thought that Marion Smith was a rather stodgy name for a little girl and called her Phyllis. This name stuck all her life and three generations of her off-spring are also called Phyllis. She attended St. Cuthbert's Boarding School in Yorkshire which was a train ride from Shirley which was part of Nottingham. Her grade school was in a church which had been built about 1200. It is believed that the church is still there. (Recollection of daughter Margaret) Note: grade school could well have been in Edinburgh.
Phyllis was not fond of her step father so she jumped at the chance to visit a friend in Canada in 1914 (may have been in 1913 with them arriving in June or July). However, when the war broke out, she was not able to get home again. The family planned a trip to visit Phyllis's mother in Devon in the late twenties but the Florida hurricane struck before the trip and they were not able to go.[Langstaff Jul 26 01.FTW]
