Jim says the either Gladys or her parents came from Russia. When he was a youngster he would visit with her and she would show him the photos of the family in Russia as well as many pictures of the Czar and other nobility.¹ Herbert B. Arleen Ada Nesbitt was born on 6 April 1939, at, Thunder Bay, . She was the daughter of Robert Ivan Nesbitt and Kathleen Mathilda Martyn.
Arleen Ada Nesbitt married Kenneth James Langstaff, son of Jack Langstaff and Kathern Lucile "Flinn" Flynn, on 14 November 1959, at Thunder Bay, Ont.. Arleen Ada Nesbitt was Taken to Toronto to attempt surgery, but not possible. Ken stayed with Sarah, Arleen in hospital, and Jacky came for support.
Arleen was then sent back to Thunder Bay for radiation and chemotherapy on the 14th. on 9 April 2005 at diagnosed with brain tumour, , .¹
Arleen Ada Nesbitt died on 23 March 2006, at At the Cancer Centre at 4:15 pm of the brain tumour, , . Ken, Doug and Dee were in the room with her, Panetta, Jim and Jacky had left for a few minutes to leave the family alone. The Nesbitt family arrived about 5 pm. Body was cremated for a summer memorial.

1939 - 2006Arleen passed away peacefully at TBRHSC, with her loving husband and family by her side on Thursday, March 23rd, 2006 after a year long battle with cancer. Arlene is the beloved wife of Kenneth James of 46 years. Loving mother of Cyndi Fecteau (Kevin) and Keith (Darla) of Calgary and Douglas (Diana). Grandmother of Michelle and Brandon. Lovingly remembered by mother Kay Nesbitt; sisters Linda Vescio and Sheila Crocker; brothers Robert Hugh Nesbitt and Willie Nesbitt of Simcoe. Arleen is also survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was predeceased by her father Robert Ivan Nesbitt in 1996. As per Arleen's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.¹

Shirley June Rich Shirley was a nurses aid who had come from Kngston to Rainy for the job. Her Mom and Dad lived in the west end of Kingston (the posh district) and they invited me (Jack)to dinner several times when I was at Queen's. I must admit that I put on the outback rube air for them so they could feel they were teaching me a little culture. They were actually very nice and I still remember the piano concert at Grant Hall they took me to featuring Vladamir Ashkenazy. It was in fact my first real brush with culture.

DRYDEN—LANGSTAFF

     The Notre Dame Church in Rainy River was the scene of a quite wedding on Tuesday, August 5 th at 3 p.m., when Lorraine
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Langstaff of Rainy River, became the bride of Gordon, son of Mrs. Anna Dryden, also of Rainy River.

     Father G. Couture officiated.

     The couple were attended by Miss Marie Dryden and Kenneth Langstaff.

     The bride wore as her wedding apparel a white floor length jersey gown and carried a bouquet of Sweet Pea and Baby Breaths.

     The bridesmaid wore a pink crepe gown and carried a corresponding bouquet.

     A reception was held at the home of the bride*s parents.
          
     Mr. and Mrs. Dryden will leave on a wedding trip on the weekend, visiting Winnipeg, Man., and Melville, Sask.¹

"For coolness and devotion to duty while on duty in the engine room of HMCS Matapedia under very trying circumstances following a collision, thereby setting a fine example to the remainder of the engine room crew. This rating stayed at his post awaiting further orders in spite of the knowledge of the serious damage sustained and the possibility of the ship sinking. His coolness, without doubt, inspired those about him."

From ‘Winnipeg’s Navy’ by CPO Mark Nelson on page 98: On 8 September 1943, HMCS Matapedia was lying off Sambro Lightship, just off Halifax, in thick fog, when the merchant vessel S.S. Scorpion ramed her amidships. HMCS Matapedia limped to port and PO Dryden directed the pumping operations that saved the ship. on 8 September 1943, at Collision at sea, Matapedia and S.S.      On January 7, 1981 at the Deer Lodge Hospital, Gordon A. Dryden, aged 85 years, of 33 Essex Avenue, St. Vital.

     Mr. Dryden was born at Sussex, New Brunswick. He served overseas in the First World War with the army and in the Second World War with the R.CN.V.R. as a chief petty officer. While in the navy, Gordon was named on the King s Honor List for his unfailing devotion to duty while serving at sea. He was employed with the C.N.R. as a locomotive engineer for 45 years, having resided in Rainy River, Sioux Lookout and latterly in Winnipeg. Mr. Dryden retired in 1960 and bad lived In Winnipeg since 1952.

     He was predeceased by his wife Ann in 1969.a grand‘daughter Kathy in 1980 and by his brother Garfield during, the First World War. Mr. Dryden is survived by a son Gordon and daughter-in-law Lorraine of Rainy River, Ontario; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Luney, Mrs. Dennis Cox (Sandra), Mrs. Rae Smith, all of Winnipeg and Mrs. Roland Thompson (Eva) of La Salle, Manitoba and a sister Mrs. Wayne Buerer (Jennie) of Pennsylvania. There are also 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

     Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at Pineview Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street with Canon H. Newton officiating. Service will terminate in the chapel with cremation to follow.
